Hope Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative serving the full-time employees of:

  • Eastern GT&S (a Berkshire Hathaway Energy Company)

  • Hope Gas, Inc. (formerly Dominion Energy WV)

  • Including the immediate family or household* of current members

Our four full-time employees serve over 2,300 members from our Bridgeport, WV location. We aim to provide unmatched service to each of you.

History

Hope FCU Office

According to a document signed on February 26, 1935, employees of the Hope Natural Gas Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, chartered the Hope Pittsburgh Office Employees Federal Credit Union to serve the financial needs of the Pittsburgh office employees and affiliated companies. The initial meeting was held in the Peoples Natural Gas Building in Downtown Pittsburgh. 

Seven days later, on March 5, 1935, at the 445 W. Main Street office in downtown Clarksburg, West Virginia, employees of the Standard Oil Company (N.J.) chartered the Standard-Hope-Reserve Federal Credit Union to serve their employees and affiliates’ employees working in Clarksburg, Buffalo, Bridgeport, Kanawha, Salem, and Harrison in West Virginia. 

When the Hope Natural Gas Company moved its Pittsburgh operations to Clarksburg, their credit union came with it. On March 12, 1940, the Hope Pittsburgh Office Employees Federal Credit Union held its first meeting in the same building from which the Standard-Hope-Reserve Federal Credit Union had already been operating in since 1935.

The two credit unions would operate independently from each other over the next (nearly) six decades in the same building! Both credit unions would slowly update their names over time. 

On April 14, 2000, the board of directors of Hope Federal Credit Union (the original Clarksburg group) and Gas Flame Federal Credit Union (the original Pittsburgh group) agreed to a merger. Hope Federal Credit Union, being larger in assets and having a name synonymous with the natural gas company in town, would remain the entity going forward. 

Thanks to the many hard-working volunteers over the past 88 years, Hope Federal Credit Union is well-positioned to offer safe and dependable savings and prudent and provident loans to our members.

Household is defined as persons living in the same residence maintaining a single economic unit.
